Self-Contained Wine Cellar Cooling Units

Non-ducted or through-the-wall units are a popular choice for wine cellar cooling, mounted directly through the cellar's wall. They are cost-effective, do not require an HVAC expert for installation and ideal for small to medium-sized wine cellars. However, they can be noisier as both the Evaporator and the louder Condenser reside inside the wine cellar. They should be mounted on an interior wall between studs and supported by a wooden frame due to their weight, ranging from 50 to 120 pounds or more.

Self-contained Unit (Ducted)

The main cooling unit is positioned away from the wine cellar, typically in an exhaust room. By doing so, noise is significantly reduced, resulting in a quieter cellar. Additionally, this removes the physical presence of the unit from the cellar, offering a cleaner and more streamlined look. Instead of a large appliance, inlet and outlet grills cover the ducting, enhancing the cellar's aesthetics. However, while it offers numerous advantages, the downside of a ducted system is its relatively higher cost.

Split Systems (Non-ducted)

Ductless Split cooling systems divide the Evaporator and Condenser, allowing the louder component to be placed outside the wine cellar for a quieter environment. The Through-the-Wall Ductless Split system merges easy installation with the flexibility of split systems. It is tailored for wine walls, sitting flush with the ceiling for a sleek look, and uses slot diffusers for optimal air distribution, ensuring the best conditions for your wines.

Split Systems (Ducted)

A ducted wine cellar cooling unit divides into two parts: the evaporator inside and the condenser outside, providing quiet, efficient cooling to wine cellars. This design maximizes space and aesthetic appeal inside while placing noise and vibration outside. The ducted split systems caters to various spaces, from homes to commercial establishments. However, installation requires an HVAC expert and is best suited for unique setups.

The Importance of Proper Wine Cooling

Proper wine cooling is essential for preserving the quality and enhancing the flavors of wine. Maintaining the right temperature and humidity levels is crucial as it prevents spoilage and allows wine to age gracefully. Fluctuations in temperature can disrupt the delicate balance of the wine, leading to premature aging or even ruining its character.
